The 2007-2008 Board of Regents

The Board of Regents is the guardian of the school’s mission. It is the responsibility of the Board to establish policies consistent with its mission, to provide fiduciary oversight of the school’s operations and to engage in long range strategic planning to ensure Congressional’s future.

The Board is composed of 18 members. Its members include representatives of the founding Devers family, current parents, past parents, individuals from the broader community who bring particular expertise and perspective, the Head of School, and a representative from the parent organization.

New members serve a one-year term and may be re-elected by the full Board at the end of their term to serve a three-year term. At the end of each three-year term, a member may be re-elected to serve up to a maximum of four three-year terms. Each spring, the Committee on Regents selects candidates based on a set of criteria and presents a slate to the full Board for election in the summer. Candidates selected become members at the annual meeting in the fall.

Committees of the Board of Regents currently include the Executive, Finance/Audit, Committee on Regents, and the Head Support Committee. Officers of the Board are nominated by the Committee on Regents and are elected by the full Board each year.
