Libraries

Congressional's staff designs programs to help students understand and enjoy the resources available to them in a library. Weekly visits by children from Preschool through fourth grade provide opportunities to enjoy a variety of literary genres, become familiar with authors and illustrators, and receive introductory instruction from the staff in library and research skills. Skills are practiced and applied to classroom projects. Older students make extensive use of the library for research projects and to select books for enjoyment.

Congressional's two libraries offer an extensive collection of thousands of volumes of reference, nonfiction and fiction as well as periodicals, multimedia research capabilities and a publishing center. The libraries are staffed daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the automated card catalog provides easy access to the collection from computers anywhere on the campus and on the Internet.
