Choir
Students in grades 1-8 are eligible to participate in either the Lower School
or Middle School choir depending on their grade. Rehearsals take place each
week immediately after school. Participation in the choirs is open to any Lower
School or Middle School student who loves to sing and can attend rehearsals
consistently.
The Colts Band
Band is open to students in grades 5 through 8.
The band is a wind ensemble and is open to beginners as
well as experienced musicians. The beginners band meets
twice each week, once for lessons and once for practice. The
intermediate band also meets twice each week. The bands
perform at least twice at school events during the year.
At the end of the school year, the band members are given
the opportunity to perform for an outside audience at an
event such as a local band recital.
Extracurricular Clubs and Groups
Many extracurricular activities are planned for students
in all grades throughout the year. The type of activity offered
varies from year-to-year and has included:
Fencing, Chess, Reading Groups, Science Clubs, Origami,
Board Games, Tae Kwon Do and much more. For students in the Early
Childhood programs T-Ball, Soccer, Fit Kids, and Art are
among the extracurricular programs offered.
Spring Musical
In March Congressional's auditorium is transformed
into a theater for the schools' annual Spring Musical. Rehearsals,
set building, lighting and sound design, and finally the
night of the musical make this an exciting time at Congressional.
The first musical production took place in March 1998 with
a performance of The King and I. The most recent
production held in March 2004 was the Broadway Jr. production
of Annie. Rehearsals for Congressional’s musical
production begin with auditions for the main characters by
Middle School students.
Whether playing a lead roll or not, any interested Lower
or Middle School student may sign up to be part of the cast or production
crew. There are also many opportunities for parents
to assist in painting and building sets for the musical, gathering
costumes and props as well as assisting with rehearsals.
Scouting
Congressional is proud to host five Girl Scout troops and seven Cub Scout dens, offering boys and girls exciting ways to challenge themselves, expand their horizons with unique experiences, and prepare them to serve as strong civic leaders. 131 children, some from outside the school, take part in Scouting activities at Congressional.

Girls in Kindergarten through 8th grade meet regularly to fulfill the Girl Scout goal to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, and Teen Scouts explore the outdoors, engage in community service, discover new skills and hobbies, work on self-esteem building activities – and most of all, laugh together while having a whole lot of fun!

Cub Scouts host boys in 1st-4th grades who work together to learn to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes, based on positive, enriching experiences practiced at early ages. Overnight camping, community service projects, and opportunities for new experiences entice many young boys into Scouting each year. Of course, the ever-popular soap-box derby and annual popcorn sales are big reasons, too!
Yearbook
The Congressional Record is the schools'
yearbook which is produced by the students under the guidance of
a faculty member. Middle School students may apply to be a member
of the yearbook staff and this core group of students work as photographers,
layout specialists, fact checkers and editors before producing the
finished product by the end of the academic year. The book is produced
digitally, then printed and distributed to all students.
