Early Childhood

Early Childhood Junior Kindergarten Student

Imaginative and substantive, our Early Childhood Programs prepare students for advanced elementary school study. At Congressional, our students develop a sense of excitement, discovery, and joy of learning under the nurturing guidance of a certified teacher and teaching assistant. The teaching team presents and conducts activities that promote language, cognitive, social, and physical growth.

Educational Approach
Our curriculum emphasizes the development of social, physical and cognitive skills through interactive, hands-on experiences. Early Childhood teaching is often theme-based and always age-appropriate. Particular attention is given to the development of literacy skills, and by Junior Kindergarten many students are familiar with upper and lower case letters and display pre-reading skills. Senior Kindergarten language arts includes journal writing and basic instruction on parts of speech and punctuation. Students learn to write their original thoughts phonetically while learning accurate spelling of selected words in class. At all Early Childhood grade levels, children are exposed to outstanding children's literature and authors.

Math skills are also a core teaching element, and are emphasized with hands-on examples, such as coins and cooking. In the Discovery Place science lab, children explore plants and bugs or take to the campus to learn physics by blowing bubbles. Early Childhood is also when Congressional's exceptional foreign language program starts, as Senior Kindergartners begin to learn French or Spanish.

Congressional parents are confident in knowing their children are being educated in a comfortable and nurturing environment which provides an educational curriculum that allows children to achieve at their highest potential.
