Jane Werntz (Class of 2010) Wins Local & State DAR Competition

Congratulations to 8th grader Jane Werntz for winning first place recognition in both the local (Falls Church DAR chapter) and state division of the DAR’s American History Essay Contest.  Her essay topic “The Transcontinental Railroad,” was written from the point of view of a young Sioux warrior whose way of life was greatly affected by the railroad. 

DAR essay entries are judged on historical accuracy, organization of material, adherence to topic, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation and neatness. Jane has been invited to read her essay at the Falls Church chapter in April. Her essay will now compete at the regional level of the contest.
