STUDENT LEADERS AND CSPO PARTNER TO DONATE OLD UNIFORMS TO A SCHOOL IN KENYA
Reported by Tanya Rosati-Zamary (grade 7), Student Senate historian
Beginning this school year, Congressional students transitioned to new uniforms. What were all of the CSOV families to do with the old pieces? The Student Senate in partnership with the CSPO decided that we should donate the students’ old uniforms to a school in Moi’s Bridge, Kenya named United Orphanage and Academy. The children there would put our used uniforms to good use as their new school uniforms.
This fall, the school worked hard to put this plan into action. Led by Senate members, students from throughout the Middle School collected and boxed uniforms, carefully sorting and making sure that all of the clothes were wearable with no stains or holes (see photos on this page).
Recently, the Student Senate officers met with a representative of the orphanage who lives in the area named Rhonda O’Bannon. She told us that these children don’t have very much and how much they would appreciate to have new clothes to wear. We were pleased to donate nine large boxes of clothes that we had collected. She was truly grateful for this donation. The representative told the Senate officers that, within a few months, Congressional will be receiving pictures of the students wearing the clothes that our school donated. Great job making a difference, Congressional! Mission accomplished!
