The Board of Trustees is the guardian of the Congressional School’s mission. It is the responsibility of the Board to establish policies consistent with our mission, to provide fiduciary oversight of the school’s operations and to engage in long-range strategic planning to ensure Congressional’s future.
The Board is composed of a maximum of 20 members. The members include representatives of the founding Devers family, current parents, alumni parents, individuals from the broader community who bring particular expertise and perspective, the Head of School, and the President of our parents organization.
New members serve a one-year term and may be re-elected by the full Board at the end of their term to serve a three-year term. At the end of each three-year term, a member may be re-elected. Each spring, the Committee on Trustees selects candidates based on a set of criteria and presents a slate to the full Board for election late in the summer. Candidates selected become members at the annual meeting in the fall.
Standing committees include the Executive Committee, Finance/Audit committee, Committee on Trustees, Advancement Committee and the Head Support Committee. Officers of the Board are nominated by the Committee on Trustees and are elected by the full Board each year.
